An introduction…of sorts.

Dexter's Laboratory

I’m not that great at writing, and I’m definately not that great at scripting or blogging. As a matter of fact, my grade in most of my English classes growing up never topped a “B-”. I say all this because I want my readers (and listeners) to understand that while I don’t write well, I’m laser-focused on what my subject matter is and I make every effort to understand my topic. So what if I can’t write the perfect article with subheadings in the right place and every comma and period just perfect? The fact remains, I have a passion for all things tech and tech news-related and I intend to make every effort to convey that passion to my audience in a meaningful way. If that means that word choice or conjunctions aren’t quite right, I don’t really care so long as my point is made and my audience is happy. I would appreciate anyone who has a negative comment to just hold back and let things lie the way they do — online harrassment and bullying have no place here.

Okay, so I’ve said all of that but you still don’t really know who I am. My pseudonym is Dexter O’Reilly — yes, the same Dexter from the Cartoon Network show! I could tell you my real name but, to be honest, that serves no purpose. I call my show “Dexter’s Laboratory” because I’m the kind of person that loves to tinker with tech, learn new skills (and things!), and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. Naturally, that led to me wanting to start a social media presence based around all-things tech. This text is the beginning of that presence and your first introduction to the Laboratory.

In my day job I work as a software developer for a major tech firm that will remain anonymous for the forseeable future (I don’t have permission from my employer to use their name or logotype in social media, so there’s that too….). My tech proficiencies include C/C++, Objective-C, Swift and the Visual .NET suite of languages. I am proficient in Windows, Mac OS X/macOS, and Linux. My Windows profiencies include operating systems as far back as Windows 3.0. My Mac OS X/macOS proficiencies go back as far as System 7 and my Linux proficiencies center around Debian-based distributions. In no way do I profess to know everything, and we’ll explore many topics related to these systems where both you, and I, will learn something new.

The Laboratory is really just a garage workbench with a host of old technology and tools, but each of these tools has a purpose or a project associated with it. The Laboratory is equipped with everything from a Packard-Bell 416SX running Windows 3.11 for Workgroups to ballgrid array chips from Microchip (not a sponsor). At various times, all of these will play some part in our adventures and you’ll gain familiartity with them in due time.

Anyways, I could keep writing but frankly I don’t feel like it. I think an organic introduction through my content is better than trying to write the perfect “first post”, so I’ll leave everything here for now. Maybe later I’ll change this, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Anyways, Like and Subscribe or whatever it is the YouTubers like to say, and I’ll be back with you guys soon!
